When Sophia was finally alone with her thoughts, she sat in her room, cross legged on the uncomfortable bed staring out the window. The glossy picture from her scan sat in her uneasy hands as she looked to the horizon for answers. She felt like a sailor without a compass staring in to the dark hoping the stars would guide her home, wherever that may be. She sighed and looked down at the picture and was saddened that her child’s father was not there to hold her hand and marvel and coo with her at the grainy image. Guilt was pulsing through her as a lump formed in her throat any time she thought of him. Wherever Gabriel was, she knew that he was alone with his demons.
She struggled to walk over to the couch where his abandoned jacket sat and she slowly slid it on over her pajamas. She didn’t know what he would have said to comfort her at a time like this but she wanted to feel a part of him close to her. Faint wafts of his gentle cologne swirled around her senses easing her into a false sense of security as she curled up in the lonely bed, hugging herself tightly wishing that the arms wrapped around her could magically be transformed into Gabriel’s.

It may seen odd to post a mid chapter peek but there was just something about this scene that I felt like sharing. I don't see myself as either character but I can feel what they feel and sometimes words need to be spoken or shared to have meaning.
